Guangdong imported fruit rose sharply

In recent years a wide variety of imported fruit in Guangdong by the consumers, in 2007 and 2008 the annual increase in imports at more than 20%. According to Guangzhou Customs statistics, in January-February this year, Guangdong imported 112,000 tons of fruit, a significant increase of 37%, the value of 140 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 11.7%.

Fruit imports mainly from Thailand, the United States and the Philippines. Fruit imports from Thailand 57,000 tons, an increase of 62.7 percent, accounting for the same period in Guangdong half of total fruit imports; followed by the United States and the Philippines, since the two countries separately imported 17,000 tons and 15,000 tons, increased 28.4 percent and 1.1-fold.

Longan, bananas, durian, grapes, mangosteen, etc. are the main varieties of imports. Among them, the longan, Durian all from Thailand, the bananas from the Philippines, the main grape mainly from the United States and South America, mangosteen is produced in Thailand and Indonesia.

Imports in general decline in fruit prices, the overall level of the same period last year dropped 5.6 percent. Imports at the 5 before the fruit, longan, banana, durian and mangosteen average price of imports have declined, respectively, decreased by 12.4%, 0.6%, 16.3% and 29.5%, Only grapes average growth of imports, an increase of 9.3%.

Private sector imports of fruit are the main force. Private imports of 60,000 tons, an increase of 64.9 percent, accounting for the total fruit imports 54.4%; state-owned enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises imported 35,000 tons, respectively, and 16,000 tons, increased by 12.4% and 26.8%.
