One of the first things I believe you need to do when you are first learning to play the piano is enjoy it. This sounds like a weird tip but I believe this is the key to your continued success.
Always take constructive criticism. By this I don't mean everything that everyone says is correct. But have an open mind. Sometimes other people can see things that you can see.
Be persistent. Nobody ever got me where by doing things halfheartedly. If you are going to learn the piano you need to be persistent. Things don't just happen you have to consistently make that happen.
Don't give up. Being persistent and not giving up go hand in hand. You need to understand times might get rough but you're only going to get better. Don't stop playing doing these hard times. Keep going.
Stay focused. If you make a decision that you're going to practice every day from 5 to 6PM, don't use that time to do some other activity. Make the decision to stay focused on what you need to do and get it done.
Don't make excuses. Everyone has things to do. Those things are not excuses of why you don't have time to learn the piano. Make time.
Practice makes you better. You've probably heard the term practice makes perfect. I don't know if that's true because you'll never be perfect but you can sure get close. Practice anytime you can consistently and you'll see results. This is a simple rule but it holds true no matter what. Make sure you practice.
Think I'll sign of the box. If one way is not working try another way. You may need to change the way you do things in order to get better results. If the way you why are practicing is a leading to you being bored, then change what you're going and spice things up to make it a little more fun.
If you try some of these things you'll be sure to not only become a better pianist but you'll have fun doing it. That's what matters. So enjoyed the piano, don't just play it and good luck to you!
