TVs: How To Pick A New Television

When comparing TVs for the purpose of selecting a new television for your home, there is a lot more to look at than just the price for the set. You need to decide on the price and the brightness rating. You should consider the size of the set and who the manufacturer is. The resolution is a critical feature as is the contrast radio and connectivity.
A generation ago, a resolution rate of 720 pixels was top of the line. Today, a set with a resolution of 1080 pixels is more common, at least with high definition televisions. The sets with higher resolution rates work with other HD devices such as blu-ray DVDs
The size of the television set that you select is in direct proportion to the cost of the television. Check the viewing area so that the set doesn't overpower the limited space. A set with 720 pixels is adequate for the average viewing distance of nine feet. If you go larger in size and larger in resolution, you can still enjoy the television set.
The television set contrast ratio is a measurement of the range between the top of the whites and the bottom of the blacks in the television. A contrast ratio for a liquid crystal display (LCD) should be 5000:1 in televisions up to 42 inches. Larger screens should have a higher contrast ratio. If the contrast is not strong enough, the blacks only manage to look gray and the white images are weak too.
A television set with limited connectivity is likely to be a disappointment. The set should include a standard AV input and a DVI or HDMI connection. Component video input is found on most HDTV sets. If connecting to a laptop is likely to be one of the uses for your television, a VGA connection is necessary.
Compare the brightness in television sets that you are considering. You will need a brightness level of at least 550 cd/m2 to avoid muddy images. You particularly need to check the brightness level if most of your television viewing will be in a sunlit room.
Different manufacturers sometimes specialize on the type of TVs they produce. If you plan on purchasing an LED set, look for the maker that produces the best line of LEDs. Other manufacturer's might specialize in producing extremely large television models. There is no point in considering an oversize console if your viewing area is compact.
